Title: TM1 pc...
Post by Archminion on 07/27/09 at 18:33:01
...dropped through my mail box today.

It's complete boxed Jap original. PC version Win95.

It comes in a regular size jewel case with manual and cardboard sleeve.

I can't play it just yet since it won't run on Vista, I can sort this out in a few days at most.
I can run TM2 no problem at all with Vista but sadly TM1 is a fussy little bast- a little bittersweet me thinks?

If anyone can help with getting this to run on Vista please say so!

I'll give up as much info as possible if you just ask. WHEN I do get this running I would be looking to try and get the MP mode going...

PM for photos, or you can email me at gstubberfield@yahoo.com

This is not an illegal proto or an unreleased version.

If anyone can help me upload pix of the box, disc etc on here let me know pls.

 :)

If you have an actual copy of this game, that's awesome. With just one copy, maybe we could make a rip of it and play this online.

Or, if we're ambitious enough, we could possibly hack both this and TM2PC and create an online TM game with both TM1 and TM2 levels. Think of the possibilities.

can you help me out?

I've tried using the compatibility thing in the properties menu of the exe file but it still doesn't want to run.

I need someone to show me how to run this on a more recent OS.

I can get hold of a very old desktop in a couple of days but it'll be such a fanny on getting it working properly (the pc).

It is an original as well and I'd post pics if ppl want to see them.

Looks like the game runs in a higher res like TM2. I've checked the disc and it has the same music from the PS version and the Singletrac logos and TM1 title screen (which was actually a short fmv in its' self).

No 'Lost' TM1 endings though, that would have been weird and cool lol.

I have feeling that the game might not run online per se. Maybe a local LAN or something??

Manual in Jap of course...

EDIT: just to add on the install screen there is a 'T' rating which is interesting as you would think it would be a Jap rating?

This makes sense though as the PAL and JAP PS versions still have the SCEA logo and not the SCEE or SCEI respectively.

This also means that this game is the exact same version that would have been released in the US.

I'm finding some very cool stuff on the disc including the loading screen for the dial up mode and a txt file with a special bonus credits page with special thanks and personal notes from Kirk Baum and others at Sony and Singletrac.

It's not a good idea to use old games on Vista, period. XP is the best test.

There are a select few who have TM1pc and have played against each other, but TM1pc is buggy at best.  There are several sites you can download it from if you are into that sort of thing.

Good luck, I suggest getting rid of Vista, that's where your problem is.

Is there a way to have Vista running as well as XP?

So I can switch between the 2 or something?

Yeah, you can partition your hard drive so that the smaller partition has enough room to hold both XP and TM1PC and you are gold, brother.

I've known about the Twisted Metal 2 PC port for a while now but never knew that there was such a thing as an original Twisted Metal PC port. If you PM me a bunch of photos I have no problem uploading them and then posting them on here for everyone else to look at. Seems to me that would save everyone a bunch of time.

I have to agree with Scold here. Just get rid of Vista. Its a gigantic pile of shit. When I put my new PC together I went with the Pro 64 Bit version of Windows XP. Couldn't be happier with it. The only problem I've ran into is some older windows programs don't want to install right off the bat because of it being a 64 bit operating system vs. the normal 32 bit one. Though I've been able to walk around each one of those problems.

As for getting it to run. I dunno... have you tried to install DOS box?

Awesome Arch, thanks for uploading those.  Should put TM1pc in the spotlight a little bit.  However, like I said, playing the game isn't as controllable as most would like it.  Which is probably why it never got a full release to begin with.

Looks great, really.

Two things are a concern.

One being, how the hell are we going to get this going for everyone?

Two being, assuming we get it all going, can we not turn the TM1PC Community into an elitist community like the TM2PC Community did?

I guess I really want to know how the game handles. That's always been my biggest concern with the first game, the cars didn't exactly turn very well. It took quite a bit of getting used to. Especially after playing the later games in the series and trying to go back to the original. How are the controls for the PC Port?

Title: Re: TM1 pc...
Post by Archminion on 08/02/09 at 09:07:28
Thanks mate!

Really appreciate that.

Anyway, I still haven't played it myself (that is my friend who managed to get it running on his XP machine who is playing it in the vids).

It looks very nice actually- as crisp as TM2. I like now how when you die you do the ped scream which is new.

I actually tried running this on an XP machine and it wouldn't work, a problem with DirectX it said.

btw, the reaon there is no music in the vids is because I took a copy using the windows copier thing and it just copied the files as-is, which meant the game copied over ok but the music files didn't.

I got Nero yesterday and it copies perfectly now...

EDIT: About the multiplayer, I need to check it out. I went through the text files in the game and it mentioned '2 player duel', and a password screen. Well strangely as you can see in the vids thats not how the options and title screen is set out- it must be some early text of when the game was going to be more identical to the PS version.

The word is that the game is 4 player so that would be interesting to try and get going.

I'm just happy to see that the game is in no way identical to the PS version so it's likely that there'll be little changes here and there like with the PC TM2. Once I get it running on a system of my own (might wipe vista just for this) I'll be spending as much time as I can on it.

TM1PC multiplayer has already been tested to death, and it is even buggier than TM2PC. Meaning getting even 2 players to successfully play together hardly works. The levels and cars are also incompatible and couldn't be ripped and put into TM2PC. This is what I remember from like 6 years ago so I could be missing some details as well.

If someone shows me how to upload to a server/webspace whatever you're welocme to it.

I don't know if the music uploads with the game though.

I think there was a problem.

Maybe if I manually add the music tracks to the folder?

I bought a copy of the game on a burnt cd, and have uploaded it to sendspace. The file is in a rar archive you will need winrar to extract it, the file inside the archive is .bin/cue format so you will need another program to mount it. I use daemon tools lite to mount cd images, and included the install package in the archive.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/nfzys5

Once your done extracting the files and mounting the CD image it's time to install, but this may or may not be easy.

In order to get this to install on my computer (currently using windows xp) I had to:
1. Go to MY Computer
2. Right click the TM icon and hit explore.
3. Open the Setup folder on the cd.
4. Right click Setup.exe, go to properties, then  compatibility, and select run this in compatability mode for Windows NT V 4.0

Once the install is done you have to go to C:\Program Files\Sony Interactive\Twisted Metal and select to run the program in compatibility mode, I selected windows 98.

Yes, I STILL have not played it despite owning it for about 3 or 4 months now.

I have Vista but I know several ppl who have got it running on XP with the method you say.

I will play it at some point (I want to see if it's possible to play as Minion by fiddling with the Reg Ed like TM2)

I'll just pick up a cheap desktop pc with xp or 98 on it so it might hold me over a bit till TMPS3...

It sjust so happens I'm getting 2 old dektop pc's in a about a week. Once I get those set up and find out which one the game works best on maybe we can try and connect?

I'll get back in touch when I actually have the stuff set up

Did you know you can start an MP game with no other players? I know this works on TM2pc and I thin it'll work on tm1.

Might be a way to explore the levels and check stuff out to see any differences with the ps version

I installed the game by amounting a new drive. It runs the game and I'm able to play except I encounter a problem.

It reloads the intro again and again when the game menu shows up and when I hit buttons, it restarts the intro yet again(like a loop) which is odd.

So, I have to press enter button to enter Car Select menu and start a game by the time I see the game menu. Has anyone else had the same problem?

I'll be recording a video of the problem I'm having, tomorrow.

Fraps doesn't let me record while intro is being played but it's OK. I think I can live with it, ha. I just need to be quick enough to hit enter by the time I see the menu.

I, however, recorded me playing in Level Two. Here is a portion from the game. Game graphics are really fine once you set it. (The video resolution is a bit bad though - I was lazy to convert it to a better format.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIXMkbYXLAM

I had just waken up and was having a cup of tea while playing so I didn't focus on the game much. I was simply wandering. Lol.

I never got a chance to play the PS version of TM1 so I can't compare them. Sorry.

But the game is just awesome. I haven't played all the levels yet but it seems to be as fun as TM 2. The only missing would be that you cannot choose the level you wanna play, I guess. It advances like a tournament.

Title: Re: TM1 pc...
Post by Archminion on 12/11/09 at 19:09:33
thats great.

I think the multiplayer alone makes it a bit better than the ps version.
Seriously, it would be hard for any fan who hadn't played the 1st one to then go back and play that game.

Don't get me wrong tm1ps is a fantastic game, but its totally ruled by tm2 (as it should be).

I think with tm1pc its more of the novelty factor since this is a game many will not have played.

Are you good with the registry editior mecit?

I'm not great with pc's but if you are maybe its possible to try and mess with it a bit to find out if its possible to play as minion?

I think it might work in this version.

I'm going to say that i think it will be exactly the same as it was to get Dark Tooth in Tm2.

Title: Re: TM1 pc...

I think you first must have a saved game so you can change the car you saved the game with. And for that, you need to know car values (which are probably two digit numbers just like in TM2)

I changed a few values in the "Save Game" key in Registry Editor. But not any saved games would be listed when Resume Game selected. I deleted all the values in the key and my saved game showed up again. I think someone who's good with editing registry keys and such stuff could easily do it. All we're supposed to know is car values.

yeah, im having problems with the saved games and also with keeping my game settings the same...meaning everytime i exit the game and restart it i have to reconfigure my game controller and resolution levels...any help with that?

edit: oh yeah mecit, you just have to make your selections quickly at the main menu otherwise the demo rolls, I guess if you have a fast computer the game thinks that its been idle for a min when its only been idle for 6 seconds.

well...

Finally got a full game in (as HH on Easy).
Laugh if you must but I hate playing on keys and even on easy the AI seems a bit more twatlike.

Anyway, a few things. First the helicopter mode which you needed to open with a code works from the start (check the Function keys).

Freeway free For All starts badly because now the guy directly in front is always FACING you instead. (chuck it in reverse!)

The interesting tidbit was when fighting Darkside, he's a bastard now. I always remember on tm1ps he could use freeze missiles but he didn't constantly.

Well I checked him out after playing with Hammerhead and his special is still called the 'Death Blast' but now it's referred to as an icy blue beam from hell.

Turns out his crappy old useless white laser has been replaced by an inbuilt freeze ray which does no damage but obviously sets this guy up for some great ramming ops (remember actual freeze missiles are quite rare).

Even if the AI DS had the freeze missiles removed you can see that he's just going to keep spamming his special all the time.

I think this would make him more fun in mp games?

Anyone else find anything out??

one more thing:

No in car view!!!

Just a bumper cam option.
That might have been the set up of the monitor I was using though since the game screen was playing in a smaller window with the hud on the outside.

Maybe there was no ICV because it would have obscured the screen to much?

Anyone else know better ???

When I get a bit time am going to go through all the cars properley.

I know when I run over someone with Hammerhead it does the freeze effect but I don't think it actually froze the other cars.

@ SmOkiN-BuLLeTsZ:  There should be a link to download the .bin/.cue files on the first post of page 3.  Look for the sendspace link  :)

For those who are wondering about the game itself, I have an old compaq laptop from 1999 that runs the game perfectly.  I will start out by verifying some things:

- The PC game itself is in a format very similar to Twisted Metal 2 PC (the launch screen, the keyboard controls etc.)

- The online play DOES work in this game.  I tried playing this with two of the PC's in my house and both connected and were able to play just fine.  Just be sure to disable your firewall first!

- The game does run fast in Windows XP - almost too fast to be unplayable for me.  As of yet I have not found a fix for this, however on my Compaq laptop running Windows ME it runs like it was intended to.

- There is no in-car view... both in Windows XP at 1440X900 resolution and in Windows ME at 800X600 resolution.  Oh well...  :-[

- When I have played this game on both my Windows ME laptop and XP laptop, both have had no trouble keeping my save games in between shutdowns.  The one thing the game doesn't keep is the way the controls are configured if you are using a gamepad such as a Logitech Rumblepad 2.  TM2 PC does not have this problem.

- The cars and controls handle exactly the same as the PSX version when tested side by side.

- Even though the game was bought in Japan, there is no sign of Japanese anywhere in the game... odd.

--CONTINUED FROM ABOVE--

Another aspect of the game I wanted to comment on was the background music tracks in the game's levels and how they compare to the PSX version of the game.  Specifically, for those who are wondering how the tracks line up in the PC version compared to the PSX version, read on...

One quick thing I want to say before going into the details is that I e-mailed and discussed this topic with Archminion several times.  I am merely summarizing what I have found in my e-mails with him.  Now on to the nitty gritty...

- First observation:  When inserted into a regular CD player, the PC and the PSX versions of the game play the same tracks in the same order (including silent track placements).  The track listing on the PSX and PC version is as follows:

Track 1:  TM 1 Title Screen
    Track 2:  Arena
Track 3:  City Park 2-Player (in the PSX version - in the PC version this track plays in several places, more on that later  ;))
Track 4:  River Park Rumble (Again, PSX Version - this track does not play AT ALL in the PC version - more on this later...)
    Track 5:  Cyburbia
Track 6:  Warehouse (Yet again in reference to the PSX version - the PC version plays Track 3 by default instead)
    Track 7:  Rooftop
Track 8:  Dummy silent track (3:00 in PSX, 3:01 in PC)

It should also be noted before I go onto the next part of this topic that the PC and PSX versions of Twisted Metal 2 also have identical track listings and there is no discrepancy between the tracks playing in wrong levels in that game...

Next, I am pasting the results of the music my first play-through of TM 1 PC.  This play-through was done on Easy mode with Warthog.  It should be noted that in this first play-through I DID NOT beat the game.  The furthermost level I could get to was River Park Rumble before being killed by the enemies spamming their special attacks (TM 2 PC one player mode anyone??)  The main track references come from the PC version:

2. From how far I can get in one player, the levels and the music go as follows on the PC version vs. the PSX version when the levels first load up:

   - Title Screen - Track 1 (Title song on PSX version and PC version - correct)
   - Arena - Track 2 (Arena song on PSX version and PC version - correct)
   - Warehouse District - Track 3:  Never switches to another track. (By default on the PSX version, it plays Track 6 first, and then if the player stays long enough in the level for the track to switch songs, THEN it plays Track 3.  Is this the same for your (Archminion's) PC disc?)
   - River Park Rumble - Track 3:  Never switches to another track (By default on the PSX version it plays Track 4 first and then like above if the player stays in the level long enough, THEN it plays Track 3.  I ask the same question as before).

- In summary, looking above, the following things are important:

The PC version plays track 3 MANY DIFFERENT TIMES in different levels.  The PSX version on the other hand, only uses Track 3 once and that's even if the player stays long enough in River Park Rumble (or decides to play 2 Player mode in City Park).

Also important to note is that, indeed, the song that is used for River Park Rumble in 1-player on PSX (track 4) is never used in the PC version.  I do not know why this is at this time (maybe an incorrect music trigger in converting the port?)

A final thing to note is that in the second level (Warehouse), Track 3 is used in the PC version instead of Track 6.

In the next post (NO I'M NOT DONE YET - haha), I will describe the multiplayer aspect of TM 1 PC and how the music plays in that mode...

For the multiplayer aspect of TM 1 PC, I was able to use both my Dell XPS M1530 laptop and an old HP ZE5500 laptop to run TM 1 online (the 1999 compaq has no wireless card).  For those who are curious about the specs, both laptops ran Windows XP Professional.  The Dell has a 512MB Nvidia Geforce 8600M graphics card with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHZ processor with 4 GB of ram.  The HP has a 64 MB ATI Raedon IGP 345M graphics card with an Intel Pentium 4 2.6 GHZ processor with 442 MB of ram.

Both connected to each other fine on the home network and were able to see each other from within TM 1 PC.  Here (from an e-mail to Archminion) is an analysis of the music from within multiplayer mode:

Arena - Track 2 (same as 2 Player PSX)
Warehouse District - Track 6 (this is what normally plays in 1 player and 2 player mode on the PSX as opposed to track 3 in the PC 1 player mode)
Freeway - Track 1 (same as 2 player PSX)
City Park - Track 3 (this is what normally plays in the PSX 2 player mode for City Park as well - interesting how the tracks fall in line with each other)
Cyburbia - Track 6 (It is interesting to note that this level, like the PSX version, is merely the canal portion and not the whole Cyburbia level, yet it is titled Cyburbia.  This track also plays on the 2 Player "Canal" level on the PSX)
Rooftop - Track 7 (same as 2 player PSX)

From this track list, it is shown that both the PC and the PSX versions of Twisted Metal play the exact same tracks for their multiplayer options.  It makes me wonder though why, if the tracks are properly aligned for playback, does the PC version of Twisted Metal play a different track for the warehouse and city park levels?

I also did a playthrough of Twisted Metal 2 for PC and the tracks on that disc are copied the exact same way as the PSX Twisted Metal 2 disc.  All of the songs are exactly the same on each level of the PSX and the PC versions of Twisted Metal 2 as well, so there is no doubt in my mind that the tracks for Twisted Metal for the PC are in their correct spots as well.

So, what can we here at TMAlliance conclude about TM 1 PC in terms of the music and how it compares to the PSX version?  The 1 Player part of the PC version plays some tracks differently from the PSX while the 2 Player parts are identical to each other.  Anyone have any theories or would know any insight as to why these differences exist between ports?  After all, TM 2 PC is exactly like TM 2 PSX in terms of the music tracks on the levels, so why does TM 1 have to differentiate?

--UPDATE--

I have gotten past River Park Rumble and have gotten to Cyburbia in 1 Player.  The verdict:  Track 5 plays in the PC just like the PSX... so these tracks are correctly aligned.  Cyburbia is just impossible to beat though because of all the enemies killing you at once.

--IN CONCLUSION--

So after reading all of the posts I have just created, you probably are exhausted and want me to never type another thing on these threads right??  ;D  Well the reason I posted all of these observations for you guys is because I know when I download a game from the Internet, I want the full experience (e.g. the full disc image compared to a simple RIP - That's why my status is what it is!)  I hate when people do not provide enough details about a file or game (such as music tracks and such) - ESPECIALLY when there are differences between two ports of games.  I hope this may have cleared up any issues for someone who may have been wondering about the differences between the PSX and the PC versions of Twisted Metal 1.  If there is anything you guys have questions on about my analysis in the posts, don't hesitate to PM me.

Oh and one last thing... if anyone has ANY cheats for this game at all, please share!  A God mode code or a registry hack would be INCREDIBLY useful for this game in finding out how it works!

cheers 3789!

Thanks for taking the time to look into it.

I haven't been playing much of tm1pc myself at the minute but its only bcos the old machine I'm using to run it has no sound and doesn't run the game in a full window (unlike the toob vids from my mate).

There are a few interesting gameplay quirks to check for as well, I've only played all the way through as HH on easy.

The game feels harder (maybe the keys for me?) and there are a few nasty suprises (yes the start of Freeway FFA will be a twat for most light cars).

Also check out DS's new special attack- its even got a different descripion on the car bio screen.

Its been an absolute scream finding this game.

Now has anybody got any Harbor City protos they'd like to sell...

Yeah Archminion, how DID you find TM 1 PC anyway?  What website did you go to?  I know you must have bought it from a Japanese site or something, but googling the game only turns up the stuff you submitted here and at other sites.  I'm curious because I wonder if (or where for that matter) it's possible to buy Warhawk:  The Red Mercury Missions on PC?

Hey TMAlliance!  For those who may be curious about the music in-game, I was able to finally get to the rooftop level in 1 Player mode and I can confirm that the same song that plays in the PSX version (track 7) plays on the rooftop level in both the regular battle and the minion battle.  So, the ultimate conclusion is that the ONLY track that is different between versions is that in the PC version it plays Track 3 in the Warehouse and River Park Rumble Levels.  In the PSX version, track 6 plays for Warehouse and track 4 plays for River Park Rumble.  It seems track 4 isn't used in the PC version at all, yet is there to keep the rest of the tracks in line...

On a side note I tried switching the tracks around and it throws everything out of whack; so there you have it, all of the music on the PC version levels are now known!

Was this game really only in Japan ?

Are the files easy to Mod (Like mentioned before Could Darkside be converted to TM2)?

Hey NGardner, what extraction program are you using?  I use Winrar or 7-Zip to extract .RAR files.

I think the only reason to play TM1PC is out of sheer curiosity. The online play desyncs very easily. It only takes a couple of minutes for things to be completely desynchronised to where your opponent is just driving into a wall, while on your opponents side he's actually driving around. On the same note i'm not even sure if it works over a network without the desync.

It would be nice if files could be dragged over or converted to TM2PC. But that seems unlikely. Even if the files could be dragged over. Actually getting them to function sounds like a fools earrend.

Considering how old the game is and the fact we'll never get the source for it. Probably better off creating your own game engine over trying to modify TM2 or TM1PC.

Honestly i'm just glad we have a way to play TM2PC online. I feel grateful the only sacrifice we had to make was to all agree to not use shields haha. Though it would be awesome if someone could find out how to make TM1PC work without the desync problem.

For Windows 7 i highly suggest a Wrapper like VMware.

Mortimer taught me about VMware. It's basically a Windows emulator for your newer version of windows. I use it to play Duke 3D, TM2, Decent, Metal Gear, and all of my favorite Win 98 games.

If you use VMware you'll be totally set. TM1 will open just like it would in Windows 98 and everything will function just fine.

Other then that. You could try DOS. That probably works too, though good luck actually doing anything with it besides playing single player.

If you want to play the game online.... I'm not sure why you would even try after knowing it only works for 30 seconds. But you can use the Kali program to try it out. The network code is like an unfinished version of what was used in TM2PC. So it will connect just fine.

The Desynch kills it though. Even playing Coop is impossible because eventually both players gradually end up in their own game spaces. Both games become completely disjointed.

A shame we can never really try it.

I may have totally hallucinated a coop option. Though if it did exist. There is no split screen support and the network support is broken.

Thinking about it. I have not tried it over a local area network. Perhaps over a local network it won't desync.

I run XP Service pack 3. 2.0 GHz processor, 1GB RAM.
I got it to install by running it in Windows NT compatability mode. Go figure. It runs fine in widows 98 compatability mode.

On a side note, the autoplay icon seems to be the same one used by tm2pc. Odd.

Darkside's special HAS changed, it is harder than normal, ESPECIALLY the Freeway, the CD image does not want to play music for me, you can change the time of day for the levels, and the graphics are slightly downgraded. There is heavy fog in some levels, I've noticed. Crimson Fury shoots two Crimson Blades instead of one, and enemies scream when they die. Minor changes, but they are noticable if you've played the ps1 version enough. Other than those issues, it seems Identical. I'll get to work on those registries.

EDIT - DAMMIT! It ran fine at first now it's giving me memory at 0x(random string of numbers and letters) could not be read and crashes after the intro. I've tried low resolution, no advanced text servieces, several compatability modes, and 256 colours (which crashes the game at the loading game screen) but all to no avail. Any help?

Another EDIT - It seems to work from my flash drive... wierd...

The textures will be very easy. TPC file format is nothing but a bunch of .TIM files stacked on top of eachother.

Not even sure exactly what .DPC files do. I've been swapping them out to try to get TM1 cars into TM2.

So far I have gotten white machine gun fire, and blue lightning from the environmental attacks.

mgruby22 could you tell me how did you change the color of the machine gun and the lightning - hexa mod ? - since I have the ability to change the textures of the game (you're right TPC files contains the TIM textures) for the cars and levels ?

DPC files are the 3d models, then there are some files which are difficult to mod since we don't know what was the 3d program used for the models. Another problem is to use files from TM1 PC/PSX, TM2PSX and even Rogue Trip since the format is DMD (an archive containing all the 3d files for characters and levels) and TMS (same issue but for the textures)

In the "Terrain" folder you can swap some files in order to change the topography of each levels (for exemple you can have invisible ramps, pits and so on... in a flat level), but the result is generally buggy.

Also, I can change the soundbank of the game (change the engine sound, weapon sound,.. ). Maybe we could work together ?

Here are 2 examples I made long time ago :

I tried swapping some files over from 1 to 2, but they either had no effect, or crashed. And I can't find twhere the car models are at in 1, I think most of the stuff is located in the game's coding, therefore we need source.

I've been hex modding the crap out of the game. The .dpc are easy for me to swap. I just swap the TM1 header(32 bit), with the tm2 headers. Could someone tell me which ones to swap?

ALSO:  :D :D :D :D ;D :D :( :o :-? ::)

And yes shadow, we could definately work together.

I'm not sure exactly which files I swapped, btw.

EDIT:

No, we don't need a source code. I don't have one to give anyway.

Some of my TM2 folders.

I'm getting really good with the ol' hex editor.

I'll make some new textures next time I feel like it, but for now I want to know how to get darkside/tm1 cars in TM2.

For all you hackers: Have you been able to locate where the sound effects are? I'd love to have clean extracts of them, but I don't even know what file they are contained in.

I will make it clear than my stated goal is to create a hybrid game between twisted metal 1 and 2. I think we can do it. I'm currently trying to get TM1 and 2 running out of the same directory.

My first order of business is to add in the TM1 dog. And run it the fuck over.

I've got so many ideas buzzing around right now.

I was also working on a project hacking thps3 for pc/dreamcast, but I can put that on hold.

It would be really nice if someone could extract out all the pictures of the character bios and prelevel photos and stuff for TM1 and TM2 if that's possible

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Minion now shoots machine guns from the front, and also the back.

TM1.5 is gonna kick ass.

He can do the backshot gun in TM2 anyway I always thought?

That's correct. By default he could shoot them both ways.

Woops, my bad lol

But if anyone wants to help me with how to play as darkside in TM2 I would appreciate it very much!

I've got the TM1 version of outlaw, spectre, and thumper in the game.

The TM1 version of Minion as well.

He shoots the machine gun from the back by default, there's no cheat code involved at all.

I'm going to keep on trucking along with this project.

Making mods other than level mods and car replacements\add ins from TM1 is off my radar.

I will upload a .zip with a useful tool for .TIM extraction.

It is a very easy with this tool.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/styz22

Also I'll link to a photoshop tim importer tool.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F1DAP8G9

This can import and export .tim files for PS1 games, and Tim2 files from PS2 games.

Tm 1.5... Sounds like a winner.

So, what's the aim of this exactly, to create a hybrid with the cars and levels of both games or just turn 2 into black sounds and texture wise?

Title: Re: TM1 pc...
Post by mgruby22 on 04/27/11 at 16:06:46
TM 1.5 will (hopefully) have all the cars and levels from both games!

I already have tm1's outlaw completely replacing outlaw 2.

I was at old TMA and made only one post as gruby22.

Anyway my lifelong dream was to hack twisted metal 2, then I did it with some help, now I just develop my own games. Yes I can do the 3d models, but the old TM2 format is so dated it doesn't even work exactly like the newer graphics files.

Your welcome, enjoying my 10$ real money, I mean USD that I paid for a burnt cd of a japanese release of TM1 which functioned flawlessly on my local are network BTW. Anyone who says it don't work ain't tried LAN mode.

OMG am I stuck!

I clicked on the links I saw throughout all of this forum. NOTHING worked! Besides, I downloaded TM2 for PC through www.classic-gaming.net

I downloaded everything I was told to make these mods. Nothing worked. If anyone is willing to help, please say so. I am new here, you know.

I don't know if it's right to use this old thread, but I really didn't wanted to make a new one. So anyway, I'll post it here.

See, some gifs I made to see if the textures in TM1 PC change with the night/day thing.

There's some subtle changes, do you think those are the textures or some kind of fog?

Looks like it just renders the textures slightly darker to represent night time.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but...

How do you run TM1 PC on Windows 7?

I got TM2 PC working Completely FINE on Windows 7, and I got my TM1 off of a file called 'Twisted.rar', then extracted it to my local disc. there's a folder called 'Autoplay' that brings up a menu of Twisted metal with the following options:
-Play (when clicked, it says you must install TM.)
-Install (for me, when cicked, it does nothing.)
-Uninstall
-Tips
-Exit
Help me out, I can't figure out how to play TM1! :-?

What did your archive file of TM1 come with? A .bin & .cue I assume?
So you mount the TM1 bin & tried to Autoplay but it didn't work?
Try not using "Autoplay", I think that's the issue. When you create the virtual drive for TM1 mounting the bin file, go to the virtual drive itself, DO NOT Autoplay, but right-click and "Explore" the folder, and look for the TM1 executable App file that will open the menu you saw that says Play/Install/etc. & then hit PLAY and it should work.
For some reason trying to the Autoplay route can be problematic.

Ok, So, let us take a look in the 'Twisted' Folder...

we are led to... Another Twisted Folder!

and in that folder we get...

...Pictures of twisted metal 2012 Promos?  :PHuh?

Now for the Tm folder. We open it only to unusually find...

...Pictures of cars from TM3 (Firestarter, Auger, Darkside, Spectre, Primevil, Hammerhead, Sweet Tooth) and 4 (a car which I am led to assume was supposed to be a scraped Crimson Fury Model?, Goggle Eyes, Orbital, Super Slam, and Mr. Zombie in some sort of...

...MODEL EDITOR? each image shows each car in 4 different positions: top-left Isometric, left side, rear-back isometric, and a blue wireframe  :-?What the Heck?
Here's an example of what im talking about...

I'm moving those outta the game files.

Title: Re: TM1 pc...
Post by MoshfieldAsylum on 07/09/16 at 02:36:53
Well, that's ...interesting.
*oh right, with TM4's create-a-car mode you can create Crimson Fury

How is there no Application file to open (with the TM1 icon?)? There should also be a few, about five other files there, that are missing from your picture. I'm not sure how much they matter though. Maybe the person who uploaded that TM1 archive file messed up and didn't test it to see that it doesn't work.
Ideally what you want is the image file, or .bin & .cue file, so you can make a virtual drive on your system that can run the game properly. You probably can't play the game on Windows 7 without it. You have the data of the game, but no way to run it, it seems.

Title: Re: TM1 pc...
Post by HiroHamada on 07/09/16 at 04:35:51
well, can you give me a proper runnable version of TM1 PC?

2 More questions, but it's about TM2 PC:

1. I'm having trouble with the skin changing program, whenever I save what skins I have selected, I get this error:

Errors: carsdb; shelldb; tpc;

how do I fix this?

2. can you add your own skins to the program, how do you edit the sound files, and how do you edit the level textures?

can't help you with that, maybe someone else can. you might have better results making a new post about tm2 pc issues.
