Title: My Wii is on its third home... Post by GrindhouseCinema on 03/29/09 at 07:53:48
I figured I'd share with everyone the trials and tribulations of the Nintendo Wii that I previously owned. I bought the thing last summer on a whim, at the time I had my PS3 and was perfectly happy with it. I was at Wal-Mart and seen a Wii sitting on the shelf... what can I say the low price tag and the fact that everyone was talking about the thing was enough to warrant me purchasing one.
So I did. And it was fun for a while. Though I quickly became board with it. I've said it before and I'll say it again... there are only so many times one can fake bowl before they realize I don't even like bowling in the first place! The games just weren't working for me. So there it sat... collecting dust. I ended up trading it to a guy I worked with for his entire CD collection. I'm talking 200+ CD's. All kinds of rock music and movie soundtracks. It was a good deal and we were both happy. He got it for his kid for Christmas, who is 10 years old ... who also had a PS3. So my Wii moved on to greener pastures and was finally getting some use ... for a while. You see they got bored with it after a couple of months too. It turns out... my Wii is now living in its 3rd home! That's right the guy I traded it to sold it to a guy he worked with (at his other job!). Amazing! I've never seen a new system trade hands so many times. Its really quite funny that Mike (the guy I traded it to) ended up getting rid of it because his son was totally within Nintendo's target audience ... and he just flat out got bored with it! He said that his son would much rather play on the PS3 than have anything to do with the Wii. I thought I'd share this story with everyone, figured you guys would enjoy it. 8)

The Wii is shit and I hate Nintendo more than ever for creating this piece of crap. Normally it wouldnt matter because I just wouldnt buy it like every other Nintendo console for the last 8 years, but because of its success, which makes no sense, and how it is influencing all the other game companies to copy it, I hate the Wii more than anything else.
I do find it funny that all these Nintendo fan boys that have supported their crap for years are FINALLY getting the point the Nintendo doesnt give a fuck about its hardcore fans any more. Nintendo is in denial about the fact that people keep complaining about how they arent releasing their hardcore franchise games any more. I saw Reggie just the other day on X-Play acting like he doesnt know what everyone is talking about. Weve released so many of those titles everyone wants already he says. Like Ive said before I havent bought anything Nintendo in years and I never will again.

Very much so. One day I may pick up a Wii again. When they drop in price and you can pick one up for like $150 (or less). Yes, I was bored with my Wii when I had one. The main reason I sold it was because I knew I could get exactly what I had in it back out. Maybe when the Wii is nearing the end of its life... and you can look back at the games and see a whole handful of stuff (Madworld, House of the Dead, The RE2 remake) that all look good ... I'll pick one up again. At the moment... I just can justify it sitting on my shelf, collecting dust, for one or two games a year.

QFT the only reason I'd play one is so I can actually play The Umbrella Chronicles instead of just read about it..

Maybe they can simulate throwing it into the garbage with their next game.

I can see y'all re-enacting that scene from Office Space where they took the copy/fax machine out to the field and beat it's ass mafia-style in slo-mo, but with a Wii instead..
record it and post it on YouTube :)

Yep. Even those within Nintendo's target audience start to feel the boredom set in.
I have two cousins aged 10 and 11, and both were obsessed with obtaining a Wii. Eventually of course they did get one for xmas that year, and not 6 months later they were already bored beyond belief with it. They said they had wished they got a 360 instead. Hell, anyone with half a brain could admit the Gamecube lacked some serious software. But for what it lacked it did have charming titles, and stunning visuals for its time. I thought the GC was the weakest of the 3 last generation, but imo was still my favourite to play. Those few exclusives made me love it to death. But now here we are with a Wii, which is just 3 GC processors strung together, and added a remote control (which I HATE). Its so sad to see a company completely disown their hardcore base. And yes they have one or two adult titles but it isn't even anywhere close to what is the standard of hardcore.

Good Wii games.
Metroid Prime 3, House of the Dead: Overkill, Trama center, Madworld, Wii Sports, Smash Bros Brawl, Battalion Wars 2, Umbrella Chronicals, No More Heroes, Red Steel, and the best version of Resident Evil 4. I could name more. There is also a Punch Out remake on the way. Also look at Xizors achievment list. You'd think he'd love Kirby and Pokemon.

I guess its just me personally but none of those titles you listed interest me at all Hellbent. I was interested in Red Steel when the Wii first came out because I had been reading about before the Wiis launch but when I played it it just wasnt what I expected. They only thing that looks even remotely interesting now is Mad World and even that doesnt make me curious enough to buy it.
The only way I would buy into this whole motion control and Wii shit is if they had a powerful enough system to run awesome FPS games that were up to the standards of todays consoles. Motion controls could be a nice alternative to a keyboard and mouse in my opinion for console gaming but thats just not going to happen on a Wii. Not to mention their lack of caring about the social side of gaming with online play. Nintendo doesnt seem to really grasp gaming has become a highly social thing and that people want to play games together and against each other on more than just a couch. They could at least do SOMETHING cool with the Wii like remake or rerelease Goldeneye or at least another game like that. As hard as it is to imagine it, the N64 had the top FPS game with Goldeneye. They were able to capture even that audience but they just dont care about anything other than making half ass games just to utilize that goddamn Wiimote.
